The Day of Conception – Valborg, Beltane & The Magic of New Beginnings

The day my baby was welcomed into my womb, on one of the most magical and fertile days of the year.

The Beginning of My Pregnancy Diaries

This is the beginning of a very personal series of blog posts where I want to take you along on my journey through pregnancy, birth and motherhood.

Not just from the perspective of a former midwife and holistic birth educator, but from my own lived experience as a woman becoming a mother for the first time.

I'll be sharing the beautiful, the challenging, the magical and the very human parts of this journey.

Because pregnancy isn't just about growing a baby.

It's about becoming a new version of ourselves.

And my journey began on Valborg, at the threshold of Beltane.

A celebration of fertility.

A celebration of life.

A celebration of new beginnings.

And the day I welcomed my little baby into my womb.

April 30th, 2026.

A date that will forever hold a special place in my heart.

The day I welcomed the possibility of new life into my womb.

And of all the days in the year, it happened to fall on Valborg, the Swedish celebration of spring, and the eve of Beltane, the ancient festival of fertility, fire, life and new beginnings.

I mean, seriously. How magical is that?!

As someone who has always felt deeply connected to the cycles of nature, the seasons, the moon, the feminine mysteries and the magic of creation, the symbolism of this day was certainly not lost on me.

And now, looking back, it feels like such a beautiful beginning to this new chapter of my life.

Beltane – The Celebration of Fertility & New Life

For those of you who aren't familiar with Beltane, it's an ancient Celtic festival traditionally celebrated around May 1st.

It marks the transition from spring towards summer, when nature is bursting with life, fertility and creative energy.

It's a time of planting seeds, celebrating abundance, honouring the earth and welcoming new beginnings.

Here in Sweden, we celebrate Valborg on April 30th, gathering around large bonfires to welcome spring and the return of warmth and light after the long Scandinavian winter.

And I just love the symbolism of fire.

The burning away of the old.

The awakening of the new.

The fertile earth coming alive again.

And here I was, on this very day, welcoming my little little one into my womb.

There was something incredibly beautiful about that.

Welcoming My Baby Into My Womb

There is something so extraordinary about the beginning of life.

Even after years of working as a midwife, witnessing birth and supporting women through their journeys into motherhood, I still find the mystery of creation absolutely mind-blowing.

And now I was experiencing this journey from the other side.

Not as the midwife.

Not as a birth educator and mentor.

But as a woman longing to become a mother herself.

I've always wanted to be a mother, but life has wanted me to mother and midwife others instead of my own children for many years until it finally became my time.

And at times it has brought me grief to not be a mother yet myself, but mostly it's catapulted me into a deep trust in divine timing, trusting the great mystery and knowing that what is meant for me will not pass me by.

And that something wiser and higher than myself knows better about when and how.

It might just not be on my preferred timeline.

And in hindsight I feel like it could not have been at a better time in my life.

I feel so deeply ready, it's like I'm living the physical expression of what I have always been.

A New Chapter – From Midwife to Mother

For so many years I have devoted my life to sacred women's business and birth work.

To women.

To the sacred rite of passage into motherhood.

I've taught about the Maiden to Mother initiation, about surrendering to the great mystery, trust, intuition and the profound transformation that happens when a woman conceives, carries and births new life.

And now, here I am.

In the middle of my own initiation.

It's one thing to know something intellectually, to have witnessed it in others, to have held space for hundreds of women walking this path.

And it's another thing entirely to walk it yourself.

And at the same time, it's the most natural thing.

A feeling of coming home to a body and a state I have always lived in.

It's like my physical reality is finally the same as my internal one.

I will share a few blogs with videos from the first trimester in the coming weeks as I know myself how valuable it is to take part of these stories and experiences of women when you yourself are wanting to conceive or are in the midst of it.

Then I intend to share about my mother blessing ceremonies, my prep and shoppinglist for baby, myself, the birth and postpartum as well as home birth preparations and of course updates from the 2nd trimester and 3rd trimester.
