When I look back over my own journey, I can see how each chapter of my life, first in nursing, home educating my five children, and as a midwife inside the system, was quietly preparing me for the work I do now.
Almost three decades in mainstream healthcare gave me flexibility when my children were young, but it never truly aligned with my deeper purpose: walking alongside women through the sacred rite of passage that is birth.
When the system finally asked too much of me, I chose to step away.
My years as a midwife inside the maternity system left me with both skills and scars.
I supported countless home births, often quietly, while working within structures that didn’t honour women’s innate wisdom.
Stepping away was necessary, but it was also terrifying, and I felt lost wondering how I could continue this work without the safety net of a job or the familiarity of the system?
I knew I wanted to support women in a non-clinical way, in a way in which the woman was in control and responsible for her choices but when faced with the realities of building a business, tech, marketing, social media, I felt like I was lost at sea.
I stumbled through a few courses early on but either never completed them or found they just weren’t relevant to what I needed.
I felt I was floundering and it was hard to keep going.
When Anna’s business course came up, I hesitated, wondering if this would be another failed attempt?
Another waste of money?
Wondering if it would demand too much from me, as I felt I was the problem, perhaps too old to start something new like this.
But for some reason I decided to take the leap and found this was exactly what I needed.
The short, intensive nature of the first weeks gave me momentum I didn’t know I had.
Instead of dragging on, the pace kept me moving, and I began to roll with it, feeling excited to be doing something.
The community of women, birth workers like me, was inspiring, supportive, and generous.
Giving and receiving feedback in a space where people genuinely cared, helped me feel less alone.
It certainly challenged me in many ways, but I found I was loving the challenge.
I came into the course unsure about social media, carrying imposter syndrome, and was often stuck in perfectionism or procrastination.
I learnt a new relationship to it all.
Skills & Tools: I learned the practical steps of running an online business, how to
create, share, and market my offers without waiting until they were “perfect.”
Mindset: I became familiar with my inner critic and my fear of stepping out of my comfort zone but moved forward anyway.
I let go of the idea that everything had to be polished before I put it out.
Momentum: Once I started creating consistently, the energy built on itself.
I actually began to enjoy showing up online.
Feminine Business Approach: Anna showed me how I could stay true to my flowy, intuitive, flexible way of working while also grounding it in a masculine container of structure and routine.
As I showed up more online, I attracted new clients, both in-person and, for the first time, virtually.
I stepped out of my comfort zone to lead red thread lineage sessions, began planning online courses, and understood that I could create before I had “all the gear.”
I saw the possibility of reducing the strain of being constantly on call, being able to serve women in ways that honoured both them and me and expand my work into the online space.
I still stray from routine, but now I have a structure to return to, and knowing that is deeply comforting.
This course didn’t just give me skills, it gave confidence to create and share.
Confidence to do business in a feminine, soul-aligned way.
Confidence to build something sustainable so I can keep doing the work I love without burning out.
For birth workers who, like me, have struggled with tech, social media, or imposter syndrome, Anna’s business course offers more than just information.
It offers community, structure, the opportunity to create financial freedom independent of in-person clients while still serving women who need support.
