5 Weeks + 6 Days Pregnant – The First Pregnancy Symptoms!

My Pregnancy Diaries – First Trimester

So here I am, almost 6 weeks pregnant!

And I'm here to share my first signs of pregnancy with you.

I Knew I Was Pregnant Before Taking the Pregnancy Test!

I actually knew I was pregnant before I even took a pregnancy test!

A part of me was hesitating even doing the test and just waiting and seeing and letting life and nature unfold.

But then a part of me wanted to be able to send a picture to family and friends sharing the news with a cute visual (see my socials for the little video of the preggo test and a baby onesie)

Around the time my period was due, around 4-5 weeks pregnant as my period tend to come around day 28-32, I started experiencing the lightest nausea.

It began the day before my expected period was supposed to arrive and continued over the following days.

And at the same time, I was experiencing quite strong period pain sensations.

And I was absolutely convinced my period was about to arrive.

Every morning I was expecting a gush of blood standing up... for days...

But the nausea was new to me...

That is nothing I usually feel.

This was the only physical difference indicating something was different.

And even though the physical sensations besides the nausea made me expect my period... it didn't come.

So I waited.

And about a week later, I finally took that pregnancy test, but I already knew.

My body and soul had already started communicating with me.

And I was listening. ♡

The Nausea - my first sign?!

So out of all the pregnancy signs I got the most common one, the nausea.

Not necessarily the kind where I felt like I was going to throw up, but more of this underlying queasy feeling that came and went.

And interestingly, it wasn't the same every day.

Some days I felt quite nauseous, and other days I felt almost completely normal.

It was fascinating how much things could change from one day to the next.

I'd also noticed that my sense of smell had become more sensitive.

The toilet smelled more, otherwise I wasn't too bothered about smells to be honest.

The Progesterone made me Sleepy and came with a Strong 2 day Intense Headache!

Up until week 6 I kinda enjoyed the sleepy state progesterone lulled me into.

There was an entire new little human being developing inside of me, and although you couldn't see much happening from the outside, my body was working around the clock.

So I tried to honor that.

To rest when I needed to rest.

To listen to my body rather than push through.

And to remind myself that doing less didn't mean that I wasn't doing enough.

I was literally growing a human!

The head ache however!

This hormonal progesterone head ache is something I have experienced before and it came on some time between week 3-4!

I couldn't know know it was pregnancy related until after... but I did have a suspicion.

And it turns out, I was right!

It was all consuming for 3 whole days and nights and then went away...

Also sleeping poorly was an earlier sign than the nausea... but again... couldn't know for sure it was a pregnancy sign... it just all added up after...

Feeling Dreamy, Harmonious & Deeply Feminine

Something else I experienced during those early weeks was this beautiful dreamy and harmonious feeling.

It was almost like I was floating through life in a slightly altered state of consciousness.

I felt softer, calmer and more inwardly focused.

Like my body and soul had shifted into a different rhythm.

There was this beautiful sense of harmony within me, a feeling of being deeply connected to myself, my womb and the little life growing inside of me.

And I absolutely loved it!

As someone who has spent years working with the sacred feminine, women's mysteries and altered states of consciousness during pregnancy and birth, it was fascinating to experience this shift within myself.

It felt like I was naturally turning inwards.

Less interested in the outside world and more drawn towards simply being.

Resting.

Feeling.

Dreaming.

And allowing myself to surrender to this new chapter of life.

There was something incredibly peaceful about it all.

Even with the on and off queezyness and sleepyness, emotionally I felt so harmonious.

Like I was exactly where I was meant to be.

And perhaps that's what I loved most about those early weeks.

This feeling of finally coming home to myself.

Of my physical reality finally reflecting something I had felt within me for so many years.

I wasn't just growing a baby.

I was becoming the mother I'd always been. ♡

Feeling Dizzy, Shaky and Hungry

Another thing I experienced was moments of dizziness and shakiness.

Sometimes I suddenly felt like I needed to eat something, and quite quickly!

My hunger definitely felt different.

It wasn't a normal kind of hunger either, but more like my body was demanding food.

It went from 0 to a 100 in seconds.

It was quite an adjustment, learning to listen to all these new signals.

And remembering to bring snacks when I wasn't home!

Something I still struggle with ;)

Baby bells and pears to the rescue for me!

The Bloating!

Can we talk about the bloating?!

Because seriously, how could someone be this early in pregnancy and already feel so bloated?

My digestion had definitely changed.

I was experiencing more gas and bloating, particularly after eating certain foods, and sometimes my belly felt much bigger than you'd expect at not even six weeks pregnant.

Obviously, it wasn't a baby bump yet.

But my goodness, my belly seemed to have other ideas!

It was fascinating how quickly pregnancy hormones began influencing the digestive system.

What About My Breasts?

One thing I didn't experience much of was breast tenderness.

And I found that quite interesting because it's one of those pregnancy symptoms we hear about all the time.

Sore, swollen breasts are often described as one of the earliest signs of pregnancy.

But for me, it wasn't really a prominent symptom. Yes a little, as I mention here in the video... but not a real thing for me. Still isn't (at 26 weeks).

Hormonal acne however! That was a thing all of the 1st trimester.

Just another reminder that every woman's body responds differently to pregnancy.

And that there really isn't one particular way we're supposed to feel.

Learning to Trust My Pregnant Body

Something I reflected on during those early weeks was how easy it could be to pay attention to every little sensation.

One day I was feeling nauseous and exhausted.

The next day I might feel surprisingly goodLike I wasn't pregnant at all.

And it was interesting to observe how quickly the mind could start analysing what that meant.

Even with all my knowledge and experience as a midwife, I was still a woman experiencing pregnancy for the first time.

And there was so much about this journey that simply couldn't be known or controlled.

Which brought me back to something I've been teaching women for years.

Trusting.

Surrendering to the mystery.

Allowing the body to do what it knows how to do.

Listening deeply.

Being present with what is.

And remembering that pregnancy, like birth, is not something we can control.

It's something we experience.

Something we move through.

And something that transforms us along the way.

Looking Back at Almost 6 Weeks Pregnant

Looking back, those early weeks were such an interesting mixture of sensations.

Nauseous some days, surprisingly normal on others.

Hungry, bloated, dizzy, occasionally shaky and definitely more tired than usual.

But also dreamy, peaceful and deeply harmonious.

And underneath all of that, there was this growing awareness that my body was doing something absolutely extraordinary that I on and off doubted and was wondering, is there a living being inside or not.

It was still so early.

There was so much ahead.

And I had no idea exactly what my pregnancy journey was going to look like or if it would go all the way to birthing a baby.

But I was quietly hoping and wishing it would... and recording it for me, my baby and maybe to be shared like I am now... with you.

If you're pregnant yourself, or hoping to conceive, I'd love to hear about your experience too.

Did you have lots of symptoms this early, or hardly any at all?

And did you have that inner knowing before your pregnancy test turned positive?

With love,
